It is with huge sadness that BRASS announces the death of our beloved director, Brian Cunningham. Brian passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 9th November 2025.
Our Chair of Trustees, Morris Johns, has said the following, “Brian was more than a leader – he was the heart of our charity. His vision, compassion, tireless dedication to BRASS’s mission of supporting refugees from around the world, and making them feel at home, have touched countless lives and inspired us all.”
Brian led BRASS for over 15 years, developing the charity in its services, size and scope. BRASS now supports more than 950 refugees and asylum seekers each year and is firmly embedded in the local community.
As a charity leader, Brian was skilled, knowledgeable, modest and kind. Above all, he was committed to improving lives, and he devoted his whole working life to this goal. Prior to working in the refugee sector, Brian had worked in the fields of dementia research and legal advice – making significant contributions in these areas. He also served as a magistrate.
BRASS is so grateful to Brian, and we will miss him enormously. We will keep doing everything that we can for our clients, continuing this crucial work that Brian was so passionate about.
A memorial event will be held in due course; BRASS will share details nearer the time.
